This report describes implementing a new approach and method exploiting Science Fiction (Sci-Fi) cinematography and What If? Scenarios to address Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs) and conscious design principles with technologies in an educational context.
The approach and method in question were applied in a two-day workshop, ‘Future: Imagine and explore new challenges for Interior Design’ with first-year interior design students to support them in projecting into the future, envisioning new design spaces, becoming more aware of the role of design in addressing Societal Challenges, start adopting systemic and pluriversal perspectives. The method behind the workshop is applying the Envisioning Tool developed by the author and the activity with the students. The Envisioning Tool is an online library of Science Fiction (Sci-Fi) films classified by societal issues and technologies addressed in the plots to stimulate proactive and critical discussion among the students through fictional imaginaries.
